A quick thought

"Life is like a box of chocolates..."

I suppose that if you study that single section of a longer sentence from the film Forrest Gump, then it can be very enlightening.

"...you never know what you're gonna get."

And so to the rest of that line.  A good pay off considering the character that Tom Hanks is portraying.  I am certain that the writer must have thought that there was more to the line though, and when they came up with it, it must have been a eureka moment.

Basically, when you open a box of chocolates there are many different types of chocolate sweets in there, and they can be sweet or bitter, or anywhere in between.

This is so true in life as well, where we never have everything nice and twee.  Sometimes there are hard metaphorical hard centres, there are occasional sour centres, sickly sweet, fruity centres, and all sorts of others.  We all go through these different things.

In a box of chocolates we know which flavour is our favourite though, and that determination has been made because we have tried the others.  So in life, if our lives were made up of only good things where nothing ever happened, then we would take them for granted, and probably not even know how good those times are.  As is it though, we all have good and bad times, and we appreciate those good more because of this.

I might add though that it doesn't stop us from being irritated by everything that happens to cause the bad times though, but I try not to take advantage of what is good in life because of it - my family, my love (Louise), my friends, and all else that happens that is good.

Thank you for reading, please take care.
